Peter Pohar, 89, formerly of 321 E. Water St., passed away on October 18, 2023, at Pocopson Home, in West Chester.

He was born in Centralia on August 12, 1934, the son of the late Michael and Mary Pohar.

Peter worked as a blaster and coal miner for Kerris and Helfrick Inc. and Reading Anthracite.

On May 19, 1962, in Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church in Centralia, he married the former Cynthia Waskiewicz, who preceded his death in 2013.

Peter cherished spending time with his granddaughters, who were his world. He loved his dogs and enjoyed their companionship.

Peter is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Atkinson of Coatesville; and two grandchildren, Teaghen and Payton; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Peter was preceded in death by four sisters, Helen Hereshko, Katherine Remetta, Mary Bolick, and Anna Pohar; and two brothers, John Pohar and Michael Pohar.

A graveside service will be held Friday, November 3, 2023, at 12 p.m. in Our Mother of Consolation Cemetery, Mt. Carmel Township. Arrangements are in the care of C. J. Lucas Funeral Home Inc., 27 N. Vine St., Mt. Carmel, PA 17851, C. J. Lucas IV, Supervisor.
