Strong - Raymond J. Moncavage, 78 of 156 Fourth Street went to be with our heavenly Father Wednesday, January 17, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Shamokin on September 18, 1939, he was the son of the late Sylvester and Violet (Zaleski) Moncavage. He was a 1957 graduate of Mount Carmel High School.

Raymond was employed by PP&L for more than 25 years.

On April 24, 1965 in St. Casimir's Church, Kulpmont he married the former Rosemarie Michalowski, who survives.

He was a member of Divine Redeemer Church, formerly Our Mother of Consolation Church, Mount Carmel

He was a cryptographer in the United States Air Force.

Ray was an umpire for the Mt. Carmel Area Baseball league for various age groups. He was instrumental in obtaining the poles for lighting at the Anthracite Field in Mt. Carmel and Veterans Memorial Field in Kulpmont.  He was co-founder of the Mt. Carmel Celebration of Special Athletes.  Ray was a Fourth Degree member of the Mt. Carmel Knights of Columbus.  Through the years, Ray belonged to various service organizations including Mt. Carmel Elks, Eagles, Moose, and the American Legion.  He bowled a 700 series both left handed and right handed.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman.  He enjoyed classic movies, music, and drum and bugle core performances.  But Ray will be most remembered as loving his wife, Rosemarie, his children and grandchildren.

Survivors in addition to his wife, Rosemarie include a son, Bob Moncavage and his fiancé Chrissy Stevens, of Bethel Park; two daughters, Sandy Facer and her husband Bruce of Strong and Judy Dobson and her husband Don of Buckhorn; eight grandchildren, Timmy Glowatski, Aiden Moncavage, Emily and Sarah Dobson, Lindsay Bickar, Bruce Jr., Jonathan and Shawna Facer; two sisters, Dianne Bland and her husband Dick of Paxinos and Mary Fran Mirarchi and her husband, Michael of Glen Mills; one brother, Mark Moncavage and his wife Stephanie of Marcellus, New York; two sisters-in-law, Donna Moncavage of Strong and Mary Ann Zarkoski and her husband Ed of Winfield as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Charles and Helen Michalowski and a brother, Theodore Moncavage.

FUNERAL NOTICE

Raymond J. Moncavage of 156 Fourth Street, Strong - Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 10:30 am in Divine Redeemer Church, 300 West Avenue, Mount Carmel with Reverend Martin O. Moran III, officiating.  Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery, Elysburg.  Viewing will be held Friday evening from 6:00 - 9:00 and Saturday morning from 9:00 - 10:15 with Transferal prayers at 9:30 in the C.J. Lucas Funeral Home, Inc., 27 North Vine Street, Mount Carmel, C.J.
