Rita T. (DeNunzio) Madden, 93, of Marion Heights passed away on January 4, 2024, at Geisinger Shamokin Area Community Hospital. Rita was the last surviving member of her family's generation.

She was born in Marion Heights on January 6, 1930, the daughter of the late Louis and Theresa (DeAnglis) DeNunzio.

Rita was a lifelong resident of Marion Heights and a graduate of Kulpmont High School, class of 1947.

She worked as a seamstress at the Arrow Shirt Factory and Gitman Brothers Factory.

On October 15, 1949, she married the late Thomas J. Madden in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church.

Rita was a member of the Church of the Holy Angels. She was very active in the Church. Rita sang in the church choir, was a member of the Golden Angels and the Lady Lions of Kulpmont, and served as a former Eucharistic Minister.

Rita is survived by two daughters, Deborah Martin and husband, Edward of Marion Heights, and Kathryn Poponiak and husband, Paul of NY; two sons, Thomas J. Madden and wife, Tammy of FL and Dennis Madden and wife, Loriann of MA; 10 grandchildren, Michele (Charles) Krah, Melissa (Eric) St Amand, Elizabeth Martin, Jonathan (Erin) Madden, Alison (Dave) Phelps, Melanie Madden, Natausha (Joe) Horton, Brigitta (Heather) Needleman, Sean (Patty) Madden, and Brandon (Katrina) Madden; 16 great-grandchildren, Tyler, Olivia, Hannah, Max, Madelyn, Aidan, Chase, Isabelle, Grace, Charlie, Fletcher, CJ, Arthur, Auden, Sophie, and baby Mira; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, Rita was preceded in death by her siblings, Columbia Feudale, Ralph DeNunzio, Albert DeNunzio, Mildred Somma, Joseph DeNunzio, and Louis DeNunzio; and a companion, Henry Kalbarczyk.

Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at noon with Father Andrew Stahmer officiating in the Church of the Holy Angels, Kulpmont. Burial will follow in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cemetery, Marion Heights. Viewing will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass in the Church.
