Steve P. Krehel, 79, of 142 W. 3rd Street, Mount Carmel, passed away on June 9, 2024, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, after a lifetime of dedicated service to his country, state, and community.

He was born on March 13, 1945, in Shamokin State Hospital, the son of the late Steve Krehel and Cecilia E. (Suchoski) Gaughan.

Steve was born and raised in Kulpmont and spent most of his life in Mount Carmel. He graduated from Kulpmont High School in 1963, where he was active in sports, playing football and basketball. He proudly served in the United States Army Reserves. Following his military service, he pursued a career as a State Policeman, entering the Academy in 1971 and retiring in 1991. Upon retirement from law enforcement, he assumed many roles including head of security at Knoebel's Amusement Resort.

Steve was an avid golfer and was recently crowned the Senior Division Club Champion at Knoebel's Three Ponds Golf Club. He also won several State Police golf tournaments over the years. Steve was an avid bowler and competed in several leagues. He was also a member of the prestigious 700 Club.

Steve was a member of the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, where he served as an usher. He was also a past member of the Elks Club.

He is survived by his wife, Carole (Boyle) Krehel of Mount Carmel; a son, Shawn and wife, Ann (Roscoe) Krehel of Mount Carmel, and their daughter, Nicole Roscoe of Boulder, CO; a sister, Mary Kroutch and husband, George, and their children, Brian, Kevin, and Alexa; and a brother, Michael Krehel and wife, Sandy; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Joan (Boyle) Gergen. Steve was also the beloved uncle of Susan Mortensen and Rob Gergen, along with their families, who survive.

Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at noon with Father Francis Karwacki officiating in the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery, Elysburg. Viewing will be held on Saturday, June 22nd, from 9 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. with transferal prayers at 11 a.m. in the C J Lucas Funeral Home Inc., 27 N. Vine St., Mt. Carmel, C. J. Lucas IV, Supervisor.
